Planned Maintenance Program
Readiness Inspection
Major Service & Readiness Inspection
Load Test Service & Readiness Inspection

Your investment in emergency power can be substantial. Make sure your standby power system is in top shape, ready to start when required.

Here are the components of a Planned Maintenance Program:

Readiness Inspection

Visual Inspection

  • Check overall appearance of equipment and controls (leaks, loose wires, etc.)
  • Check fan belt tension and condition
  • Check fuel filter or sediment bowl (for condensation)
  • Check lubricating oil level
  • Check coolant level and anti-freeze mixture (liquid cooled)
  • Check battery electrolyte level & specific gravity
  • Check battery charging rate

Operating Inspection (while running)

  • Check day tank pump and level of fuel if required
  • Check operation of cooling thermostat or louvers
  • Check output voltage, frequency, and amperage
  • Transfer of load with transfer switch, if permitted
  • Check for leaks - oil, coolant and fuel
  • Test all emergency shutdown devices
  • Check engine controller configuration parameters

Includes:

  • Labour
  • Travel within greater metro area

Does not include:

  • Parts or other materials
Major Service & Readiness Inspection
  • Clean or replace all panel lights
  • Replace fuel filters
  • Clean or replace crankcase breathers
  • Drain exhaust silencer condensation trap
  • Change lubricating oil and replace filters
  • Inspect, reset or replace spark plugs and breaker points, where applicable
  • Inspect governor oil and operating linkage
  • Inspect generator brushes and collector rings where applicable
  • Perform building load test where possible
  • Inspect and clean battery terminals
  • Check fuel system operation

Includes:

Does not include:

  • Parts or other materials
Load Test Service & Readiness Inspection
  • Run generator set at full rated load using a load bank as well as available building load

Includes:

Does not include:

  • Parts or other materials

Weekly Inspection, Test, and Maintenance Requirements
from CSA C282-05

  • inspect day fuel tank fuel level (minimum 2 hour supply required)
  • inspect lubricating oil level
  • inspect engine coolant level
  • inspect engine, generator, fuel tank, and cooling system for leaks
  • inspect for proper operation of fuel transfer pump
  • inspect starter for cleanliness, mounting and electrical contacts (air starters require additional inspections)
  • inspect all battery cells for electrolyte level
  • test all battery cells for correct specific gravity
  • inspect all electrical connections for tightness and corrosion
  • inspect battery for cleanliness and dryness between terminals
  • inspect battery charger electrical connections for cleanliness and tightness
  • test battery charger for proper operation of both float and equalize modes
  • test oil and coolant heaters for proper operation
  • inspect governor control linkages
  • inspect fuel pump oil sump
  • inspect fan belts for correct tension and wear
  • inspect control panel covers for security
  • test annunciator lamps to confirm operation
  • inspect control panel settings (ready for auto-start?)
  • test remote visual and audible trouble signals at the building fire alarm panel
  • inspect air control louvre settings for proper operation
  • test emergency lighting units
  • correct all defects found
  • enter all inspections, tests and corrective actions in system logbook
