Automatic Voltage Regulators
A range of Automatic Voltage Regulators designed to achieve optimum performance from STAMFORD AC generators.

A key feature of all STAMFORD AVR’s is the engine relief load acceptance feature. This is called the Under Frequency Roll Off (UFRO) circuit. It reduces the output voltage when the engine fails to maintain frequency during motor starting. This reduction in power requirement with engine speed assists the Prime Mover to recover speed after application of a heavy load and protects the rotor against over-excitation.

Stamford AVR's

Spec sheets
SX460 The standard AVR for generators in the lower power bands (less than 200 kVA). This is a low cost AVR for low-tech applications where paralleling is not a requirement. The voltage regulation is in the order of ± 1.5%*. The UFRO feature operates at a preset point 95% of the operating frequency. details
SX440 The SX440 AVR is fitted to a generator in the range of 250 – 800 kVA as standard and as an option on generators of 22 –250 kVA . The voltage regulation is in the order of ± 1%*. The UFRO feature operates at a pre-set point 95% of the operating frequency. A range of accessories is available for this AVR including the requisites for parallel operation. details
SX465 This is a smaller AVR similar in performance to the SX440. The reduced size makes it ideal for mounting inside the smaller terminal box of the BC range of generators. Regulation of ± 1%* , UFRO circuit preset at 95% of operating speed. This AVR is either powered from the output terminals or from an auxiliary winding as fitted to the BC184. Ideal for marine applications and is an economical way to improve motor starting. details
SX421 This AVR is offered as an alternative to the SX440. It has the advantage of better regulation, ± 0.5%*, UFRO at 95%.of the operating frequency and 3 phase 3 wire sensing ideal for supplying unbalanced loads. Newage electrical accessories are available with this AVR. details
MX341 The MX341 achieves a voltage regulation of ± 1%*. The UFRO feature operates at a pre-set point 95% of the operating frequency. Short circuit current is maintained for 10 seconds, to allow breaker discrimination to operate, before the AVR shuts down to protect the generator from damage. Accepts all of the Newage range of electronic accessories. details
MX321 MX321 The MX321 is the top of the range high specification AVR, it is supplied as standard on Frame 6 & 7 generators (800-2000 kVA) and is available as an option on generators in the range of 250-800 kVA. It features ± 0.5%* (RMS) regulation, fully adjustable UFRO, short circuit maintenance for 8-15 seconds. Current limiting may be included to allow control over the amount of short circuit current flowing during short circuits. Accepts all of the Newage range of electronic accessories. details

* When two or more ac generators are connected in parallel it is necessary to share the mechanical and the electrical loads evenly. The mechanical load sharing is controlled by the engine governors. The electrical load is controlled with the aid of a current transformer that works in conjunction with the AVR (not available on a SX 460 AVR). When the generator is paralleled to the mains; the power factor of the load can also be controlled, with the aid of a Power Factor Controller.
