Power Generation

Features & benefits

Frontier manufactures custom built "turn key" generator sets for alternating current power generation. These units typically consist of a welded, formed steel enclosure mounted on heavy gauge wide flange ("H") beam skid rails which enclose the generator set, fuel supply and parts storage. Standard width is eight feet with enclosure lengths of 10, 12 or 16 feet (2.4 metres x 3.1, 3.7, or 4.9 metres). Custom sizes are available. These sets are widely used in oilfield, prime power, and rental applications.

There are many variations available in this generator set series. Normal sizes are from 60 kWe to 350kWe. The principle advantage of these sets is that they are usually supplied with electrical distribution equipment including outlets, transformers and switch gear in a walk-in, lighted enclosure. Engines as supplied are John Deere, Isuzu and Kubota diesel.

Stamford brushless alternators can be connected to any standard 50 or 60 cycle, low voltage to 600 VAC.

Most engines can be supplied in Frontier's field-proven Long Run version, offering extended oil change intervals to 2,500 hours.

The list of available options is quite lengthy, including:

Long Run Sump Frontier's optional "long run" oil sump provides a large volume of lubricating oil. Used in conjunction with a bypass filtration system, oil change/service intervals can be greatly extended. This feature reduces the labour and travel costs significantly for routine service at remote sites. This feature also ensures longer engine life in cases where routine maintenance requirements may be overlooked.

Distribution Shown is a 400 amp rated distribution panel. The main disconnect is fused to allow reconnection of the 12 lead generator and replacement of the fuses to the correct current rating for the new output voltage.

A breaker panel, on the right hand side of the photograph, feeds the GFI duplex 115V receptacles and four wire 100 amp Hubbel pin and sleeve connectors.

Distribution options can be provided to suit site requirements.

Radiator End This 100kWe diesel generator set has thermostatically controlled radiator shutters for cold weather operation.

The 300 US gallon (1100 litre) fuel tank is shown to the right of the generator set.

This unit is "dry sumped". The black tank mounted under the set holds 55 US gallons (205 litres) of lube oil to provide extended service intervals. A bypass oil filtration system allows 2500 hours of operation between oil changes under normal conditions.

Provision for Transport Both ends of the 8" wide flange structural steel base frame are coped. A pipe extension across the frame terminates in "teardrop" lifting flanges. The unit may be dragged or the set can be winched onto a flat deck vehicle. Vertical lifting is accomplished with a spreader bar assembly and chains down to the four lifting eyes provided.
